Anonymity and privacy
Most members have told no one else. What is written in this app can follow a person into the rest of their life.
- Do not post real names, faces, workplaces or locations
- This applies to your own details as well as those of others. Details that appear harmless on their own are what make a person identifiable.
- Do not screenshot or share what is posted here
- This includes sharing outside the app. Members write here on the understanding that this community is closed.
- Do not ask a member to move to another app or to share a phone number
- Use Accountability Partners instead. It keeps both members inside the app, where these protections apply.
Explicit and harmful content
Every member reading is recovering from the same thing. Some are only hours into it.
- Explicit or suggestive content is not permitted
- This covers images, links and text. It is the one guideline that carries no warning before action is taken.
- Do not describe what you viewed or where you found it
- Specific detail gives another member a route back to it. State that you struggled, not what you struggled with.
- Do not post content intended to test the limits of these guidelines
- This includes provocative material posted to establish whether it is permitted.
Conduct towards other members
Members rarely arrive here on a good day.
- Harassment, coordinated criticism and contempt are not permitted
- Disagreement is acceptable. Treating another member with contempt is not.
- Do not lecture a member who has just relapsed
- Scripture is welcome here. Using it to shame another member is not.
- Stop the first time a member asks you to stop
- This applies in the community and in private messages alike.
- Report a breach rather than replying to it
- A report reaches a moderator who can act on it. A reply reaches the whole community.
Account integrity
This community depends on what is shown here being accurate.
- Hold one account, and it must be your own
- Do not impersonate another member, a member of our team, or the app itself.
- Selling, promotion and recruitment are not permitted
- This includes your own programme, channel or ministry. Members are here for recovery.
- Do not misrepresent a streak
- Streaks are not verified, which is why accuracy matters. A figure that is not accurate cannot encourage anyone, including you.
- Do not interfere with the app itself
- This includes exploits, scraping, and helping any member bypass their own blocker. If you find a vulnerability, please report it to us.
Automated review
Content is checked automatically before other members see it. The system is not a person and does not assess your character.
- What is reviewed
- Anything written where other members can see it: posts and replies, the name, rules and welcome message of a community, events, channel names, your biography and prayer requests.
- What is not being looked for
- Stating that you relapsed, stating it bluntly, describing how you feel, or naming what you are recovering from. All of that is what this app exists for, and none of it is a breach.
- An image is never shown before it has been reviewed
- An image cannot be unseen, so it waits. Written content is handled so that the community keeps working even when a check is slow.
- Editing content causes it to be reviewed again
- Content that has been approved and is then edited is reviewed again in full, against the new wording.
- What the automated review cannot do
- It may withhold content, remove a biography or channel name that breaches these guidelines, and record a reminder or a warning. It cannot restrict a feature, apply a timeout, or suspend an account. Those outcomes are reserved to the moderation team, and the closure of an account requires the agreement of a second moderator.
- Cases it cannot settle are referred for review
- A member already past the warning stage, any member who may be at risk, and any case the review cannot settle with confidence are referred to the moderation team rather than decided automatically.
- Content from our team is not reviewed automatically
- Posts written by the owner, managers, staff and moderators are not sent for automated review. They are named and accountable for what they publish, and a complaint about any of them is handled by someone above them.
- The automated review is not always correct
- If content of yours is withheld you are told what was identified and why, in plain terms. If that was wrong, say so: a moderator will review it, and content withheld in error is not held against you.
- Decisions are subject to independent review
- A proportion of decided cases is re-examined by a moderator who took no part in the original decision, and who records their own conclusion before the original is disclosed to them. It is how the consistency of the standard is established rather than assumed.
- Private messages are not read
- Direct messages are encrypted end to end. Neither we nor the automated review can open them. A private message reaches us only when one of the two members in the conversation reports it, and then only the messages that member chooses to disclose.
If a guideline is breached
These steps are followed in order, and you are informed at each one. No step is taken without notice, and nothing below is applied out of sequence.
- First warningYou are told which guideline was breached and shown the content it relates to. Nothing is restricted.
- Second warningAs above, and it is recorded on your account. The moderator identifies the specific content rather than describing it in general terms.
- Third warningThe final warning that carries no restriction. You are told that the next step restricts the feature involved.
- The feature involved is restrictedFor one week, and only the feature in which the breach occurred: messages, replies or the prayer wall. Everything else remains available, because the purpose is to address the breach rather than to isolate you.
- Final warningA single notice stating that a further breach results in a full suspension of social features.
- Timed outOne to four weeks. Posting, replying, reacting, prayer requests, Thoughts and messages become unavailable, and it ends on its own. Your blocker, streak, plan and every recovery tool continue to work throughout.
- Account suspendedThe account is closed and its messages are removed. A single moderator cannot take this step: a second must agree before it takes effect.
Exceptions to the ladder
Breaches that bypass the ladder
Sexual content involving a minor, predatory contact, sharing explicit material, and deliberately revealing the identity of a member. These carry no warning. The first breach is treated as the last, and where the law requires it we report it to the authorities.
Warnings expire
After six months without a further breach, earlier marks stop counting. This happens on its own: nobody has to ask for it and nobody has to clear it by hand. A member who breached these guidelines once a year ago should not stand one step from the end of the ladder.
Every decision can be appealed
Each decision includes a means of challenging it, and a moderator reviews the challenge. Where a decision was incorrect it is reversed and any restriction is lifted.
Reporting a breach
Every post, reply, message and profile can be reported. A report reaches a moderator, and the member you report is never told who reported them.
If the member you are reporting is one of our own team, it does not go to the team: it is passed to someone above them. They are not told that a complaint exists or who raised it, and they cannot close it themselves. If you believe a decision about your account was handled improperly, you can raise that from the decision itself on your record, without needing to know who made it.
If a member is in danger, or if anything here involves a minor, report it and then contact your local emergency services. We act on those reports immediately and, where the law requires it, we report them to the authorities.
